2012 Highlights

Total value of the U.S. soybean crop was more than $43 billion.
U.S. soybean farmers planted 77.2 million acres (31.2 million hectares), an increase of 2.2 million acres (.89 million hectares) over 2011.
Brazil was also the world’s largest exporter of soybeans with 1.411 billion bushels.
U.S. soybean production was 3.015 billion bushels, down slightly from the previous year.
Average yield in the U.S. was 39.6 bushels per acre, down from 41.9 the previous year.
Soybeans represented 57% of the world’s oilseed production.
The U.S. exported 1.345 billion bushels of soybeans, or about 45% of total production.
The U.S. was second to Brazil (3.068 billion bushels) in soybean production.
U.S. biodiesel production stayed stable at 1.1 million gallons.
